Last Night
Calling all fairies
Who have shown me the ways
To a prince and his balls,
Loaned me their pumpkins,
Their works, their dresses,
And men.
Its midnight now
I’ll have to go home
To clean up some ashes,
Watch my sister
Chop off her own toes,
As Nonna has misplaced
Her good set of teeth
Again. I want to
Find the bright shiny object
Hidden beneath floorboards
In my closet
As a child.
I’ll be back before
The streetlight flickers
And fades.
Meet me out back
I show you
Real good time,
My famous
Inverted shotgun
And a picture of my Mom
With lace on her hair
Holding an infant.
That’s me.
Beside a man,
My father,
In front of a church.
Smiling as they held me under water
To cleanse me of
Sin.
